I’m a chicken, I admit it.
I’m the child who hid behind her mother. If my mother lived closer and was large enough, you might still find me there.
So as the words came out of my mouth, “I would like to share at the July ladies’ meeting”, my next thought was, ”What in the world were you thinking, Kathy?”
Our ladies’ meeting was scheduled for July 14, 2016. One morning, standing in front of my mirror, God reminded me of a season where He had literally spared my life when all seemed lost.
The violent man – 2008
On March 17, 2008, I let a man into my office. He asked for a phone book. As I reached out, he grabbed my arm, and I found myself down, his body on top of mine.
As his hand tightened around my throat, he screamed, “You do what I say, or I will kill you.”
He moved his hand, and I felt the blade of a knife against my throat.
As he tried to tear my clothes, I cried, “Are you going to kill me?”
Realizing there was no one who could help me, I prayed out loud,
“Jesus, Jesus, Father God help me.”
In the next moment, I heard the roar of a great and powerful wind moving through that office without disturbing a paper or moving my hair.
After struggling to hold me down, he jumped up and ran out the door.
When the police found him, he told them, “She said angels were all around her.”
“He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me; You have delivered me from the violent man.” (NKJV)
Psalm 18:48
I remember crying in the dark that night as Steve took my hand and told me, “Kathy, I’m glad you didn’t die today.”
As I stood reliving that day, the Lord reminded me of another time He rescued me from such despair.
The grief of my father’s death – 1987
After my daddy’s death, overwhelmed by sorrow, I found myself face-down on my bathroom floor. I cried out to the Lord, “I am at my wit’s end. Please help me.” I opened my Bible and began to read Psalm 107:26-30. (KJV)
“They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit’s end.
Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and He bringeth them out of their distresses.
He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
Then are they glad because they be quiet; so He bringeth them unto their desired haven.”
When I read the words “wit’s end”, there was no doubt in my mind that God had heard my prayer.
As the Lord took me down a path of remembrance, I realized God had been faithful in every season.
Texas wildfires – August, 2011
We lost our home in the Texas wildfires. Accompanied by a fireman, Steve was able to save our two elderly dogs just minutes before flames engulfed our home. All was lost. In the rubble and ash we found three Precious Moment figurines still intact. The messages found on the three…
Jesus Loves Me
Jesus is the Light
Jesus is Coming Soon
I shared my testimony of God’s faithfulness that Thursday night. Seventy-two hours later, the morning of Sunday, July 17th, 2016, Steve went Home and met Jesus face-to-face.
And I knew why God led my heart to share. He directed my thoughts to the seasons of His faithfulness. When I needed the reminder, He sent it, a reminder of His great love for me. He would be with me in this season as well. My name is inscribed on His hands. Great is His love, and great is His faithfulness.
“Behold I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands.”
Isaiah 49:16 (NASB)
Dear Heavenly Father, You have walked with us in every season. You remind us of those days so we can rest in the truth we will never walk alone. We praise You for gathering us here today where we find comfort in Your presence. Amen
