Shawna Hakes shares her home in Central PA with her long-haired Chihuahua, Gus and most recently with her granddaughter, Olyvia and her husband, Tony, along with their cat, Hazel. She and her husband, Victor, raised a blended family of 5 children throughout their 24 years of marriage. Victor lost his battle with lung cancer in 2016. At that time, Shawna not only lost her husband but eventually suffered the secondary loss of relationships with her 3 step-children and their 4 children. She is thankful for her 2 daughters (and son-in-laws) and 10 grandchildren who have been a huge support to her through her journey but gives glory to her Savior who collected all her tears and held her close as she grieved deeply.
Shawna works for a non-profit Christian Camp as Office Manager. Additionally the Lord has prepared her for this next chapter of her life by placing her in various ministries over the years. This includes President of a regional church ladies retreat, head of 2 women’s ministries at the churches she attended, speaker at Tres Dias retreats, and banquet coordinator just to name a few!
Because Shawna knows how dark this path of widowhood can be she desires to guide other widows to the light as they walk through the shadowed valley. In addition, she desires to help educate the Body of Christ on how to better minister to the grieving widow.
