The weight of my grief felt so heavy. With tears flooding down my cheeks and my heart in pieces, I cried out to the Lord. I pleaded for a word from Him that would relieve the pain I was feeling.
I lay in bed and waited for Him to answer. Almost immediately I heard the Holy Spirit speak to me the words of Matthew 11:28 (NASB1995).
“Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”
It was a powerful reminder that I could come to God with my weariness and sorrow; an invitation to surrender it all and find rest in His presence.
As I continued seeking the Lord, I opened my devotional Bible randomly to the Psalms. The devotion on the page was entitled, “Don’t Fret”. Coincidence? I don’t think so!
Once again I felt the Lord tugging at my spirit saying to me, “Don’t worry, I got this.”
As I pondered on everything the Lord had just spoken to me, a couple of verses on the same page caught my eye.
The Lord makes firm the steps
of the one who delights in him;
though he may stumble, he will not fall,
for the Lord upholds him with his hand.
Psalm 37:23-24 (NIV)
These verses paint a beautiful picture of a loving Father who is intimately involved in the lives of His children.
Knowing that I was held securely in His hands gave me the peace I needed to enter into the rest He promised.
I fell asleep that evening knowing that God not only saw my pain but that He understood my pain and that He would sustain me. There would be more hard days as I continued working through my grief towards healing but God has walked with me and has kept me safely in His hands.
Remember, as a widow, you are not alone in your journey.
The Lord, who upholds you with His hand, walks beside you every step of the way. He understands your sorrow and offers His comforting presence. He is your resting place!
Though grief is extremely challenging, God’s love for you remains constant. He sees your pain, collects your tears, and offers His unfailing love and grace. He will never leave your side. Allow yourself to rest in His embrace, drawing from His strength to face each day with courage and hope.
Because He cares for you deeply, He invites you to cast your burdens upon Him.
So when the weight of grief feels overwhelming, the decisions are daunting and you’re at the end of your rope, you can turn to Him and find rest for your weary soul.
His hand of grace and mercy will sustain us through the darkest of valleys and empower us to persevere. We can find great comfort in knowing that our Heavenly Father sees our struggles, understands our weaknesses, and stands ready to support us.
So, let us approach each day with confidence, trusting in the unfailing love of our God.
Delight in Him, seek His will and allow Him to establish your steps. Even when the road seems uncertain and waves of grief flow over you, remember that the Lord is with you, upholding you every step of the way.
Take a moment to reflect on the times when God has guided and upheld you in the past. Recall His faithfulness, His provision, and His unwavering presence. Allow this assurance to fill your heart with hope and renewed trust in Him.
Gracious Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and unfailing love. Thank You for the promise that You uphold us with Your hand. Today, may we surrender our path to You, knowing that You make our steps firm. Help us to delight in You, to trust in Your guidance, and to find comfort in Your presence. When we stumble, Lord, catch us and lift us up.
