Even the darkness is not dark to you;
the night is bright as the day,
for darkness is as light with you.
Psalm 139:12 ESV
The light of the moon dances across the snow-covered field.
It is an invitation to take in the beauty of His creation. I decide to soak it all in. All the stress of life has been swirling around me, capturing my attention for far too long.
As I venture off into the darkness I realized the stillness of the night is the exact atmosphere I needed to settle my heart. Thoughts have been bouncing off of every part of my brain, causing some anxiousness.
I walked out into the winter night, thinking about so many heavy circumstances. I couldn’t move past the direness of each situation. They all involve tough decisions, hard consequences and no easy fixes.
Sometimes having the responsibility of two without the benefit of my spouse’s presence makes me weary.
I looked out across the field and can’t help but think that this beauty of a moonlit night is exactly how the darkness and heaviness of matters swirling around me look like to Christ.
Even the dark is light to Him.
He is with me; He knows how hard all this is for me. He sees the light in the midst of every dark opportunity. Like the moonlit night’s beauty, He wants me to be swept up in the beauty of what He is creating in me. He wants me to understand the end result of all this darkness is the light He has seen from the very beginning.
Just to emphasize His point about darkness, recently I made an unexpected trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. That trip involves travel across a five mile suspension structure better known as the Mackinac Bridge. The night was dark, but the moon was huge and beautiful! The lights along the bridge-towers and railing were magnificent. I could see every light blinking across the Straits.
Looking down into the darkness I see a freighter quietly slipping under the bridge. It was long, completely outlined in white lights. Seeing a freighter all lit up like a Christmas sleigh? It made my night.
Here is a vessel doing what it was created for, despite the darkness and the rough conditions of the winter time seas. It was moving forward to its destination. Its beauty completely enamored me.
I want to be like that vessel, all lit up no matter the season, no matter the conditions.
I want people to see that my “night is as bright as day” to Him.
I need not fear when I have a Heavenly Father that does not see the dark.
All this darkness has a reason. If you cannot see the light of it now, have no fear –you will see it soon enough! God is in the business of making the dark places light.
Dear Lord, thank You for guiding us, even in the darkest of places. We are thankful You bring light into every situation. We ask that You give us courage to wait with You as You bring forth the light in every circumstance. Amen
