Do you get weary of all the “Christmas cheer” when you don’t have much to “cheer” about? I understand. I get it. There are just days it is hard to muster up the “holly and the mistletoe” feelings.
One thing that helps me is music – not just the traditional Christmas silly songs but more of the Christmas hymns. True confession: I LOVE to listen to the entire Handel’s Messiah! Music has a way of settling into the cracks and crevices of my hurting heart like nothing else.
One song that I have latched onto this season is this: O Come All You Unfaithful. Now before you think I typed the word wrong, that is the title. Do you ever look at your heart and think, I’m more fearful than faithful many days. I’m broken, sad, and have nothing to offer my God.
That is exactly who He died for – you! Christ was born for YOU! God is not waiting there in heaven for you to become the best version of yourself before He will accept you. He’s not waiting for you to let go of all your “baggage” before He will love you. You are the unfaithful one He came for. You are the broken one He died for. And you are the guilty one He rose again for.
For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:7-8 (ESV)
During this last week leading up to Christmas, let this truth wash over you. While you were unfaithful, He was/is faithful. While you were guilty, He was/is sinless. And while you were His enemy, He drew you in as His child. When you look at the nativity scenes in your home and around your community, see that infant Jesus loving you so much.
Christmas HOPE can be yours this year. Let your heart be reminded of His gift to you.
Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of Your Son Jesus. We are broken and unfaithful but You offer salvation to us. Give us eyes to see Your gift of Hope this Christmas. Amen
