“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.
Lamentations 3: 24-25 ESV
It started out as a simple trip to the grocery store.
Six weeks had passed since my husband’s home going, and I could not postpone the trip any longer. I had to get some food in my house.
Carefully, I made my way through the produce section. It seemed safe enough. I even managed to make it up and down a few aisles.
So far, so good, I convinced myself.
But, as I rounded the corner, my eye caught the display of cereals–the melt down began. Struggling for air, the tears began to slowly fall. My mind took me back to the previous shopping trips, and I realized then how they were centered around my husband.
What would he want for dinner?
What kind of cereal would he want?
What would he want?
Overcome with emotions, I fled from the store.
Thankfully, by God’s grace I have grown quite a bit since that grocery store melt down. Facing this new season of my life with hope and keeping my eyes focused on the cross, my question has now changed to “What would HE want?” What would GOD want?
Isn’t it wonderful that He has given us a guidebook for instruction?
His Word tells us what He wants and, by delving into it, we can discover not only what He wants for our lives, but, what He has in store for our lives.

Sisters, I know this journey is hard. But, if we trust Him – we can discover His plan for this new life we are in.
Even as we walk it without our beloved husbands by our sides.
As He cheers me on – I can imagine my husband cheering me on as well. He would be proud that I am moving forward.
We lived abundant lives with our husbands. We can now live it without them.
After all, it is what He wants.
Heavenly Father, Please keep our hearts and thoughts focused on Your will for this new season of our lives. Thank You for Your word where we can be assured of Your love and concern for us. Bless all these widows who search for what You want for them. Amen
