I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:1-2 ESV
Our purpose:
It seems like in an instant Easter and Holy Week was over and we returned to the busyness of everyday life. But I want to stay there, in a Holy week mindset, focused on God and His plan. As a widow, I take great comfort in being reminded of the bigger picture, the real reason we are on this Earth, and what it means to live in the context of Eternal Life. We exist to glorify God. Made in His image, sanctified by His death, we are the kingdom of God, right here – right now. Think about that for a moment. Isn’t that incredible?
Our purpose has not changed with the death of our husbands. We have not lost our way. If anything, we understand who God is and what it means to be a part of His kingdom in a more profound way than ever before. We are primed to do our best works in glorifying Him yet. Or are we?
Preparing for what’s ahead:
A friend of mine will be competing in her second Ironman competition this week. She is ready. She has trained long and hard for months, actually years. In some ways, she has been training for most of her life. It makes me think about the race you and I are running as Christians. Have we been training long and hard? Are we doing everything we can to be victorious? Will we overcome the obstacles in our path? Are our bodies ready for the work God has prepared for us to do?
There is no doubt that becoming a widow is probably the biggest challenge we will ever face. It rocks our world. It overwhelms us physically, mentally and emotionally. But we are not alone. God is with us. As any athlete will tell you preparing your body alone is not enough. Your body, mind and spirit all need to be working together. Paul tells us in Romans 12:1-2 that these things working together are our act of worship! How do we get our mind, body and Spirit working together as we face these new challenges?
It’s not easy. It takes training. But you don’t have to do it alone!
Join us at our Widow’s Conference:
On October 20 – 22, 2019 we will be hosting our fifth annual A Widow’s Might, Inc. conference/retreat. Our theme this year will be focused on renewing our mind, body & Spirit so that we may complete the works God has prepared for us to do. As with our other conferences/retreats, there will be great times of worship and fellowship interspersed with valuable information geared towards helping us grow and move forward in our journeys.
We will be returning to the beautiful, serene lakeside Camp Copass in Denton, Texas just 25 minutes from the Dallas/Fort Worth airport. We are also excited to announce that thanks to our generous sponsors we are able to offer a lower cost this year. Our three- day conference costs, deluxe accommodations for two nights and your meals are provided for $299 double occupancy or $399 single occupancy. All rooms have two queen size beds. For those of you who are flying, DFW is a highly desired airport because typically travel is easier and less expensive. Super shuttle service is available to the camp so a car rental is not needed.
Registrations will be opening soon so please pray about joining us and renewing your mind, body and Spirit!
