He made my feet like the feet of a deer
and set me secure on the heights.
Psalm 18:33 (ESV)
New Discoveries
In this new and unwelcome journey into widowhood, I’m making some astounding discoveries. I thought I had a great relationship with the Lord before all this. And to be honest, I did. Yet now I find myself in total and utter dependence on HIM.
Not on church doctrine, not on tradition. Not even in the way, I knew Him before. But I am coming to know HIM in ways that I didn’t even want to have to know Him before.
New Repairs
Since I’m self-employed as a mobile dog groomer, the van and things in the van need to work correctly. I could do a few very minor repairs, but Frank or our auto mechanic handled the other things. I had no desire to know how to change the electrical plug that goes into the van so I can access power from a client’s house. The plug was getting perilously loose. No plug into the van equals no power. It’s rather challenging to run clippers and a dryer without electricity! Could I ask one of the guys on my block to fix it? Probably, except it seemed like everyone was away on vacation or on a business trip.
New Prayers
“Please Lord, what do You want me to do?”
I knew I had to buy the specialty plug at the repair store but how would I know which plug? I knew I would have to take the plug apart, unwire it, detach it from the van, and take it into the store to get the right item. But HOW would I ever get it put back together and reattached?
Jesus said in John 16:13 that
“When He the Spirit of Truth comes He will guide you into all the truth.”
I knew this verse was there but had I ever leaned on it this way before? Getting quiet for a moment, I really asked Him. Not that Okay I prayed, but now I’m still trying to figure it out prayer. No, this was getting truly quiet and telling Him, “I really need You to show me what to do.”
New Ideas
“Draw a picture..”
Immediately I saw it! Draw a picture as you do this and write down everything. I could do that! Just a stick figure picture on a piece of paper and writing it down. The white wire is on the left as you face it, the green wire is on top, yellow wire is on the right. This clamp hooks here with the screw on the right side.
Zooming off to the store, I marched down the electrical aisle and found an employee, and said, “I need one of these.” Purchased the part, drove home and got out my little drawing, and set to work. Within half an hour it was done. All were replaced and working just fine. A few scraped knuckles along the way but that beats not being able to work! A real victory, spiritually and practically.
New Skills
Did I want to have to learn these skills? No, of course not! Yet it is He who is making my feet like hinds feet. Each further step on this mountainous pathway might look to be too much at first. Just as the mother mountain goat will not take her young one up higher than their little hooves have been developed for, He is coaxing me upward. If I stay close enough and listen for His voice, He will take me to the high places with Him.
Father, teach us to truly quiet our hearts before You and expect You to answer. You say in Your Word that You know what we have need of before we ask. That’s because You have provided the answer beforehand. For You and You alone are the answer to every one of our needs. Amen
