Co-incidence?
“But watch out! Be very careful never to forget what you have seen God doing for you. May his miracles have a deep and permanent effect upon your lives! Tell your children and your grandchildren about the glorious miracles he did.
Deuteronomy 4:9 (TLB)
Have you ever had a set of circumstances in your life that were so unexpected or complex that you knew there was no other way it could have happened except by divine appointment?
God-incidence?
Some people refer to inexplicable, uncanny, timely, and/or especially appropriate happenings as coincidences. But I like to think of them as God-incidences. Blessings and miracles from God that have and are making a permanent effect on my life.
After my husband’s sudden and unexpected death I had the full responsibility of managing my health issues. He was always there to make sure I did not go too low at night and took care of me when I did.
It was a scary feeling not to be able to confirm with him that I was making the right choices and the thought of living alone was not something I even wanted to think about. I was able to stay with my daughter and her family for several months until I could determine what was best for a long-term solution.
New home/Old home
I had never thought about returning to the place I grew up, but things began to fall in place and before I knew it I was planning a move back to my hometown to live with my mom in a new apartment in a wonderful retirement facility. I did not have to live alone and medical help would be available if I needed it!
A couple of months after my move, I began to search for doctors to help with my diabetes and some complications I have from it. It was soon determined I really needed to consider an insulin pump to help get my diabetes under better control. Needing to find an endocrinologist, I really wanted to go back to my “old” doctor. He had treated me before I moved some 20 years ago. I was told he was near retirement and not taking any new patients. So I finally got an appointment with a different doctor but had many reservations.
A few weeks before my appointment I went on a trip with the seniors from our church. As we began to spend time together, I realized the one lady I did not know not only shared the journey of widowhood with me, but she was a diabetic, on an insulin pump, a nurse, went to my “old” doctor, and only lived 5 minutes from me!
After a few conversations with her and a phone call to my “old” doctor’s office, I had an appointment to see him within a few weeks! It was such a blessing–My new purple pump was ordered and I was scheduled for training to begin using it.
The next day I received a phone call from my doctor telling me she knew I needed to start the pump sooner and had received authorization from the manufacturer to train me herself. She asked me to meet her on a Saturday! My friend drove me to meet with the doctor and was there so she could understand all the settings. My new friend and I not only share the journey of widowhood but understand the demands of controlling diabetes!
I truly believe all of these events were not mere coincidences.
They were orchestrated by God just as He has many others in the past. But why should I be surprised? God knows me personally (Psalm 139). He knew that my husband’s time to help me was over, so He placed another one of His children in the right place at the right time to help and be a blessing to me!
Heavenly Father, I know that there is no such thing as co-incidences in my life. Help me to watch and listen for the God-incidences that occur every day of my life. Thank You for the many I have experienced in the past. Help me to share with others how You are working in my life. May it be an encouragement and blessing to someone. Amen
